The Dead Tossed Waves
By: Carrie Ryan

Gabry lives a nice quiet life with her mother, Mary, in the lighthouse by the sea. Their village is surrounded by the Barrier, which is Gabry's version of the fences Mary was protected by as a teenager. One night changes everything for not just Gabry, but for everyone she knows. One night they cross the Barrier, the threats that were always hidden, come to light. That one night leaves half of Gabry's friends and generation dead or infected and the other half imprisoned. The boy Gabry has known her entire life is now in trouble and the only person that will help her is the mysterious guy that helps her on the beach. Can she trust him? All Gabry knows is that if she wants to survive and help the people she loves then she must go back to the forest. It's the forest that her mother came from, the forest that she's been afraid of her entire life, The Forest of Hands and Teeth. As someone who absolutely devoured The Forest of Hands and Teeth, I have been eagerly waiting for The Dead-Tossed Waves, and it didn't disappoint at all. Carrie Ryan has done it again in the next tale of the forest. The imagery was even more dramatic than I thought possible, the characters jumped off the page once again, and the story she brought to us is just as amazing, if not more so, than The Forest of Hands and Teeth. The Dead-Tossed Waves is technically a "companion" and not a sequel, and while I don't think reading The Forest of Hands and Teeth is totally essential, I do think it helps a lot. Carrie Ryan has written another fantastic story to sink your teeth into and I can't wait until the next book comes and I can continue reading about the forest and the adventures that happen within it.
